This week, I had to communicate with the mother of my client about all of her sons behavioral problems and how to address them. I was outraged when I heard what had happened with his team of behavioral support therapist. They were not effectively communicating with the clients parents. This made me feel outraged because of the lack of consideration for what this family was going through and the needs they needed to meet.
The family has been having huge behavioral problems with their son and are in serious need of constant behavioral intervention. The family finally found an agency that worked with their insurances and the needs of the client. Once they found this agency they came to the home and performed behavioral therapy. This was a huge positive impact on the family. After the therapist had come a couple of times they all of a sudden stopped effectively communicating with the family and the case manager.
Communication is huge! In every job but especially in cases like this. the parents were at a lost of what to do and their son need the constant behavioral support the lack of communication was extremely frustrating for me as the caregiver as well as the families needs. It felt like we were all in limbo waiting for the help we needed. Finally the agency started to communicate again. They set up a meeting and finally came up with a game plan to attack the behaviors and effectively communicate with the family on progress or what needs to happen next.
Throughout this meeting we learned who would be the lead supervisor of the case. We also learned what the plan was to attack certain life threating behaviors. this communication was very effect because everyone that loved and could help the client was their to express their concerns and get the best help for him. The best help for this particular client was determined to have behavior support as well as 40 hours of ABA therapy. Between the two of these services hopefully we will be able to conquer major behaviors and the ABA will conquer daily living skills.
